MISSION statement: Revised 2026

We are a group of Catholics, some of whom are ordained, brought together by our love of Christ’s Church and a desire to be part of the synodal renewal it needs.

Inspired by the legacy of the Second Vatican Council, and the call to Synodality for the Church of the third millennium, we want to contribute fully to the life of our Church so that it may be a more effective and inclusive sign of the Kingdom of God.

To enable this, we wish to promote listening, dialogue and receptivity within the Church, and with all people of good will, open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Accordingly, we aim to facilitate opportunities to share experiences, practices and insights to discern our hopes and aims for the Church in the world today.

THEOLOGY statement:

ACTA is a movement built from below by clergy and laity alike in every diocese in England and Wales. It exists to give those people an effective voice. It is an instrument to establish and promote space for a trusting dialogue within a hierarchically structured people’s Church.

ACTA believes that the reforms of the Second Vatican Council are the only way forward for mission to modern society. It is not a small chapel of selected followers; it believes in the Church as a “big tent”, with open doors. As a free and representative association of believers, it seeks to liberate the expertise in the ranks, so as to bring added energy and witness to the Church in the world.

Published: 17 April 2026

We invite YOU to the National Festival of Synodality at Glasgow Caledonian University, a day inspired by Pope Francis’ call to be “witnesses to synodality.” The Festival will focus on Conversation in the Spirit, a simple and powerful way of communal discernment rooted in listening, conversion and mission.

The day will celebrate the fruits already flourishing in the Church in Scotland and include input from Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ, Fr David McCallum SJ and Sandra Chaoul.

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience Conversation in the Spirit first hand.
Lunch is included.
All are welcome, especially those involved in parish and diocesan life, pastoral councils, schools and faith organisations.
Tickets: £45. Parishes and dioceses are encouraged to support those wishing to attend.

Celebrating and Sharing Good Practice in a Synodal Church

Written by: ICRN
Published: 23 March 2026

Introduction

In the summer of 2025, the Steering Group of ICRN discussed the progress of the synodal process across the different Continental Assembly areas of the universal Church. We agreed on the importance of identifying areas and programmes that were making a difference. We recognised that the prcess of synodal discussion and discernment might be different in different cultures but we set out to find examples that might demonstrate a capacity for modelling and emulation.

The Model

A short presentation [ some 20-25 minutes] with the opportunity for questions and answer session. Some background reading material could be provided. We would follow the same day and time pattern over successive weeks. The material would be made available to the rest of the ICRN and to other networks, including CCRI who helped to publicise the material.
